Sylvia I. Bergh is a Senior Researcher in the Research Group Multilevel Regulation and the Centre of Expertise on Global and Inclusive Learning, both at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. She is also an Associate Professor in Development Management and Governance at the International Institute of Social Studies, part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Sylvia’s academic background includes a PhD degree in Development Studies from the University of Oxford. Most of her work has focused on state-society relations in the Middle East and North Africa region, particularly in Morocco. In recent years, she has researched the adaptation to heatwaves from a governance perspective. This includes leading a research project funded by the municipality of The Hague on the effects of climate change on vulnerable population groups in The Hague, as well as the policy response to this issue. She is currently exploring the relevance of this research theme for other Dutch cities (including Rotterdam), the Middle East, and Africa, through her involvement in the CLIMARES project.
